CEO, President NSW & Vice President QLD - Raymond Leary
Ray is a voting member of the Red Chief Aboriginal Land Council and the proud father of two children. Ray’s parents came from Gunnedah and in the early 1960’s the family moved to Sydney. Ray is a former Ward of the State and for much of his life, he worked at the Grosvenor Centre, Summer Hill. The centre was operated by the New South Wales Department of Community Services and cared for severely disabled children who had developmental or physical disabilities or both. Ray is the founder of Journey Home and it has been his drive and enthusiasm that has brought this association into being.
President QLD & Vice President NSW - Pastor John Andrews
John has a degree in Civil Engineering, resides in Brisbane, is married to an Aboriginal elder and has 34 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. When he was younger, John managed a large construction company with over 100 employees. In 1990, John moved to Darwin where he worked for a Christian organisation building houses and was actively involved in the rebuilding of the Aboriginal Island communities after Cyclone Agnes.In 1996, John became a Pastor of the Gospel Outreach Ministries and works closely with Aboriginal people. He is now studying for a Bachelor of Criminal Justice through the Griffiths University.
Ross Duncan - Secretary (NSW), is a former Detective Acting Superintendent of the Australian Federal Police and took early retirement in 1993 after sixteen years service. Following this, he started Duncan & King Investigations, a private inquiry agency that undertook insurance company work.Ross changed his focus and started two investigative and paralegal firms, one of which undertakes plaintiff investigations and the other defendant investigations. He is still managing both investigation and paralegal firms. During the course of his work, Ross saw the plight of the disadvantaged and was particularly shocked by the lack of knowledge that the Aboriginal people have in relation to their civil law rights. Ross is now working closely with Raymond Leary and Journey Home.
Johnny Burrows - Secretary (QLD), is of aboriginal Descent. He did his early schooling in Cairns and Darwin and was always a boy who always readily made friends. Johnny was an outdoors boy who loved skating and has won many competitions. He left school at 14.5 years and worked in the building renovation work. He has completed many courses since then and is now employed as an apprentice painter. He is heavily involved in skating, in-line skating and skate boarding and is a role model for younger children encouraging them to have a go.
